Exposure is not destiny.
What an AI-and-jobs study can—and cannot—tell us.
Modeled occupational exposure · Updated 2026-09-27
Read the measure carefully
The ILO’s refined index estimates occupational exposure by examining tasks. The study describes transformation as the most likely broad effect because many jobs contain tasks that still require human input.
What it does not settle
An exposure measure does not predict a specific person’s dismissal, an employer’s adoption decision, or the eventual quality of a redesigned job.
Turn uncertainty into a conversation
Our suggested starting point: map tasks with the people doing the work. Identify where assistance is useful, where judgment matters, and what training or review is needed. Evaluate outcomes for workers alongside productivity.
